As you've likely heard - Facebook announced this past week (at the F8 Developer's Conference in San Francisco, CA) that there are some changes coming to your Facebook Profile.
The most notable change in appearance is the move to what Facebook is calling a Timeline Profile. Facebook suggests this Profile view shows the story of your life, as you choose to tell it. But really it's the story of your life as Facebook has recorded it - in a visual chronological time line. PC Magazine suggests "It's a cross between visual blog and on-line scrapbook."
Although this will be a rather large visible change to our Facebook experience, I think the other announced new features & partnerships will more significantly change the Facebook experience - the integration of music and movie apps. For example - if you use the on-line music service Spotify and check in with your Facebook account, the songs you are listening to right now, will show up in your Facebook Profile.
And the video you view on Hulu and that game board you're playing right now on "Words with Friends" will all show in your Facebook Profile. IF you check in with your Facebook account, merge (or allow) the apps to access your Facebook account.
This will be fine for a lot of folks (after they get over the appearance of the changed layout) but I think this is all the more reason to understand and correctly set/adjust your Facebook Privacy Settings to suit your needs and desire
You are invited to view my streaming video lesson on Facebook & Your Privacy where you can learn how to set these privacy controls to best protect your identity and privacy. This is a _free_ learning opportunity. You can view that video and download the free PDF guide here: Facebook and Your Privacy
