Ok, so you're on the road - a trip for business or pleasure... you're in the airport between flights and you need to charge your mobile phone. You head to one of those charging stations that are set-up to help folks like you. Totally safe, right? Well - very likely, but be careful.
As a test, the folks at Aries Security recently built a mobile device charging station that also had ulterior functions built-in.
According to the article "Many smart phones are configured to transfer data or sync whenever they're plugged directly into USB ports, which is what cellphone power stations are equipped with.
So a crafty hacker could make a simple tweak to the charging station and program it to automatically download all of your cellphone's data or upload malware".
But the article also points out this capability is likely in it's early stages, that it is likely rare in practice, and the author - Brennon Slattery - does give us a good idea to totally prevent this from affecting us:
Instead of relying on charging stations while traveling, carry with you a plug adapter, practice, use battery or solar-powered mobile charging devices, or -- if absolutely necessary to use a third-party charger -- turn your smart phone completely off before plugging it into a kiosk

Hackers continue to grow in knowledge and skill as the days go by. Be extra careful with your mobile phones when re-charging in public places. Better yet, avoid doing this completely in order to keep your cellphone from being hacked.
