"Moving across town last summer was a real eye opener in terms of seeing how tied we still are to physical things. Beyond all our sundry items needed to survive, there were boxes upon boxes of nice-looking and possibly interesting books and other media - DVDs, CDs, the occasional VHS tape nobody had bothered to toss. All of them took up room, and made for heavy lifting.
But there's no real good reason, beyond nostalgia, to ever get any more. I want all my music, photos, videos and books to be electronic, and I want everything else gone - even if it looks great on the bookshelf."
This is the beginning of a blog post by Louis Gray - a popular blogger who shares thoughts on all things digital. His recept post caught my attention as more and more information becomes available in digital format/s.
How much of your information & entertainment products are digital, how much of your physical books, record albums are you planning on keeping the next time you clean house or move? Certainly there are reasons to keep physical items that hold sentimental value - but has the content value for much of what we have on our shelves lost real relevance?
I am reminded of a new childrens' book that was released earlier this year 'It's a Book' by Lane Smith (post here).
