Mike does a good job making it clear that all this talk about the 4G networks (for mobile/smart phones and portable computers) might be more talk right now with very modest benefit to us, the end users. There's a helpful post by Mike Gikas on the Consumer Reports Electronics Blog today titled The 4G myth: what you need to know.
"All four carriers are moving to speed up their data networks, and that's a good thing. But the benefits for most cell users won't be as dramatic as they were when, say, we moved from the voice-call-only world of 1G to the digital-communication (text, e-mail, Web browsing, social networking) worlds of 2G and 3G."
If you have been thinking you gotta run out and get yourself a new phone to take advantage of the increased speed and performance, and you're hoping it's a dramatic difference right now -- yoy may do well to read his entire post here: The 4G myth: what you need to know.
You may also be aware that Consumer Reports last week came out with their annual Survey of Cellular Service Providers. (the one that's been focused some less than desirable attention on AT&T Mobile)
