mtvU (MTV's 24-hour college network), The Jed Foundation and The Associated Press revealed this week the results of a new poll examining college student's emotional health, their close relationship with technology, and how being constantly connected (via technology) is affecting their state of mind.
"Not surprisingly, technology functions as a critical lifeline for college students with 90% saying they've visited a social networking site in the last week, and about four in 10 having over 500 friends on those sites."
The study points out other trends between young adults in American society and how technology and the technology 'tether' of connectedness has affected them, their lives and their friendships. As with any study, there are questions about the accuracy of the findings, but it certainly paints an interesting picture. As an older consumer and user of technology I find it fascinating how this study (and other recent studies/articles) tell of the changes that technology has brought to our younger generations.
