While preparing for my recent 2 week family vacation (see My Smart Phone on a Camping Trip), I wanted to ensure that I would have a powered Smart Phone/iPhone with me during the trip for the various applications I wanted to use. In the Apple Store, features is the Incase Car Charger for iPod, iPhone and iPad - but Being the sometimes frugal person I am (having been a public educator
didn't hurt that trait) I wanted to search a little for the most affordable mobile
(car) charger for my iPhone. I found a good product at Walgreens, while stopping by for some other goodies for our trip. It's called 'Just Wireless Mobile Charger'. The company offers these 12 volt mobile chargers for several mobile phones from iPhone to several Nokia and Samsung models. I discovered these are also available at some office supply stores as well as online at Amazon.
I was a little leery of this relatively inexpensive device ($16.) mating
with my relatively expensive and revered mobile phone/tool/play-toy. I
found the connection of the Apple end of the cable/plug required a
little extra work than the regular Apple AC (USB) charger cable, and
removing the cable does take a little more pressure than I would expect.
But the charging during travel worked smoothly and quickly. This iPhone/iPod model was also used on our trip to power/charge my wife's Apple iPod Nano for musical enjoyment. The device comes with a hard-wired cable - the silver end (pictured at left) plugs into your car's 12-volt socket and the other end mates with the Apple iPhone/iPod. The device is nicely designed to swivel at the base of the 12-volt cylinder so you can move it to suit your car's interior layout.
