The above slogan might be dating myself...you may know that is the slogan used by the Timex watch company, as spoken by TV newscaster-turned-spokesman John Cameron Swayze in the Timex TV commercials. But I experienced myself a marvel of the durability of modern technology this week with one of my USB Flash Drives. I was looking for this 4GB Kingston Data Traveler just this morning when my wife came up to my office and asked "you been looking for this?". Why yes, where did you find it?, I asked. "In the Dryer". You mean the clothes dryer I exclaimed! Yep... turns out the Flash Drive had completed about 3 cycles in our clothes dryer before being pulled out. That means it also went through the washing machine! I had quite a few files on that drive and figured they would likely be either corrupt files or the drive wouldn't read on my computer. I am happy to report that I was wrong... I did have most every file backed-up (which is a strong recommendation). I was able to open some PDF files and even play back some video files I had on that drive. I am amazed at the durability of this medium. Now if I can only keep track of my stuff a little better...
