It is a great offer - but it's not really, truly free. That's why I put the word free in quote marks in the title of this article. The folks at FootageFirm.com have an offer right now where they are selling or providing DVDs with royalty free stock footage, animated backgrounds and sound effects for just the cost of shipping and handling. I can vouch for their product and the offer - previously this year I had ordered a couple of volumes from them on a similar offer. My guess is that they hope you 'bite' on this low-cost offer and come back to them to purchase additional product in the future at their 'normal' prices. In case it's not clear to you - stock footage is video scenes that may difficult or less possible for you to videotape yourself but is something you would like to use in one of your video projects. The royalty free part of their product is great because you can use the clips legally for any video you create, whether someone purchases your videos or if they are broadcast over TV (FootageFirm supplies product to the major TV networks). One of the sets I purchased was U.S. Skylines. I do workshops around North America and wanted some classic shots of city skylines to use in short videos to promote my websites. Other stock footage collections include four seasons, tropical paradise and Holiday. The animated background collections are computer generated scenes that work well for title sequences, DVD menu backgrounds or other in your videos. And the sound effects are simply that - sound effects supplied on a DVD for use in your audio tracks to embellish your projects. I cannot think of a project where I will want or need to use more than 300 bells, bangs and whistles but it's great to have if you need them! The nice thing about all these collections is that you can sample them on the website before placing any order. There are 54 different disks in this special offer - to see them all visit their web page here: http://www.footagefirm.com/free-footage#
(if you go to their other pages or use their cool selector menus to find other footage, backgrounds or sound effects - be aware that the other products may come at a steeper price). NOTE: Their HD (High Definition) collections are supplied in the QuickTime Photo-JPEG format. The SD clips come in
DV QuickTime format (FootageFirm indicates that their clips can be easily converted to other formats and that a software
converter is provided) Their SD (Standard Definition) collections are supplied as AVI files which are compatible with most every computer based video editing application.
