QUESTION: Is there a simple way to loop a short video within my Solitaire?
ANSWER: The short answer is yes, but the better answer depends on how you are showing this (or delivering it to your client)
1. If you are delivering a DVD and the video is short...like 3-minutes or 8-minutes. I would advise you to create a Scene of your Storyboard and then add that scene multiple times to the Storyboard to fill up and hour or up to 1-hour, 40-minutes. Then create a DVD - you can even program Arabesk to repeat that DVD.In Arabesk - under the 'Edit Menu' menu, select 'Control' under the 'Title Menu' options and under 'Films' select 'Play Successively'. With just one film (one project or storyboard on the DVD title) it will play the disk repeatedly.
* If you want it to auto-play select 'Trailer+Menu' in the '1. Film' section of this menu.
2. In the rare instance you are playing back a presentation directly from your Casablanca editor (like at a community or business event) you can use the settings in Presentation Options (add-on software for both Smart Edit & Bogart) that enables you to check the 'Loop-Mode'. This will continue to loop either the storyboard or even a scene in the Scene Bin until you stop the playback.
You can also use this method if you are playing out to videotape!
NOTE: If your Scene is short I would also make a Scene and repeat it in an empty Storyboard - this minimizes the momentarily stall between repeats.

I get a variation of this question regularly now and thought it would benefit colleagues to share this here:
QUESTION: I just got a Sony NX70U camcorder and my S4000Pro w ill not recognize it. What can I do?
ANSWER: First of all - anytime I receive a question about compatibility that deals with a specific device, I always check the manufacturers website to check out the specifications. I recommend this as well for any colleague who is considering the purchase of a new camcorder. For the record, here is the page I used for the feedback to this website member: Sony NX70U
First I checked to see the resolution/recording options for this camera and this was the result:
From this I recommend only shooting in one of the four 60i modes
The reason is that 24P and 60P do not match well with our current Casablanca capabilities.
Secondly I check to see the recording format and media type. I learned that this camera shoots AVCHD codec. And it has a USB port as well as recording to solid state media - both (either) SD Card and Memory Stick DUO (which is Sony's proprietatry version of flash media cards).
Running the Bogart V4 Operating System there are a number of cameras which can be recognized and files imported directly. But if you connect and your camera does not recognize your camera files - check to see if the camera has to be in a particular setting to allow this.
If that gets you nowhere, you may need to take the SD or Memory Stick Duo card out of your camera and use a Card Reader/card drive to import the video files onto your Casablanca editor.
Here is a card drive (card reader) that works well for a number of folks in our community with the Bogart OS Casablanca series:

Should be a great lesson next Thursday as I provide an introduction to audio clean-up tools (3 of them to be exact): Audacity, Levellator, and SoundSoap2.
Each of these computer applications have some powerful functions to help with audio sweetening and audio fixes. Chet will detail the benefits of each product and spend the majority of the time with Audacity. Website members can register for this on-line learning lesson right now on the Members Webinar Page. And as always, you'll have the opportunity to view the recorded lesson if you are unable to attend the live session.

This morning on the Cassie Tips List I replied to this question from a Casablanca Colleague and bet there are many others who have this and similar questions about the Storyboard Archive functions in the Casablanca video editors (capable in both Smart Edit & Bogart)
NOTE: The following settings pertain only to SD (Standard Definition) Projects. HD projects have different options (HDV or MTS) and different results when restoring the project. A tutorial on these functions will be presented next week.
QUESTION: I have been backing up the storyboard on my episode reruns as I get to them. I thought with a storyboard backup (in project settings), the restore would return the video into it's original place along with scenes exactly as they were in the storyboard when I did the backup.
When I clicked on "restore storyboard," the product showed up simply as a scene in the scene bin which I have to go through the split scene process and put one at a time back into the storyboard.
If that's the case, other than possible video quality, what's the advantage of doing a storyboard backup as opposed to using the Opt button, quickly making one scene out of the storyboard and exporting to an external HD? Am I missing something here?
ANSWER: The 'Storyboard Archive' can be confusing as it archives only the Storyboard, not the Scene Bin, no Insert Edits, none of your complex effects operators (unless you make a Scene of them first), and only the top track of audio. Still - it is far better than having nothing if you have a technical issue and need to restore a project.
As far as splitting back into separate scenes - when you backup the Storyboard, make sure you select 'DV Backup' not just DV. That 2nd choice will give you your Storyboard as a single clip. The first option (DV Backup) will split your Storyboard back into separate scenes - subject to the limitations I mentioned.
Also, when restoring a DV Backup procedure you should be presented with the menu/prompt that asks whether you wish to load the scenes into the Storyboard, Scene Bin (or you can check both).
Here are some additional resources I have created relative to the Storyboard Archive function (works with both Smart Edit & Bogart OS)

QUESTION: Dear Chet,I hope you can help... on an important video I lost sound on the storyboard, only, and only on that one project. I have restarted the Bogart several times and still have no sound on the storyboard. I do have sound in the scene bin. When I add scenes to the storyboard, again no sound. Any ideas of what is happening? There is sound with other projects on the storyboard.
ANSWER: If/since you indicate that other projects on that same hard drive are not giving you the same issue my suspicion is that your suspicious project might have a main audio track only on one channel - and that your audio monitor set-up may only be monitoring audio from the other (silent) channel.
It is an odd thing - but I have learned over the years that a scene in the Scene Bin can play audio out of the audio connectors differently than when it's on the Storyboard!
Here's a couple of things to try
1. If you can easily reach your cables - and if you have only one audio cable coming out of your Casablanca editor going into your audio monitor - switch the cables. Then playback the Storyboard to see if you have audio... if so, it's only your monitor but I would do the following in case any of your audience has a similar set-up.
2. In the Audio Mix Menu - we need to find out which channel has the audio and which is missing it.
Play back the storyboard and view the peak meter that's displaying the volume level of your audio tracks. If you are missing audio on one track it will be easily seen - it will be the track with no meter movement.
Once you have determined the 'offending' audio track -
