QUESTION: Dear Chet,I hope you can help... on an important video I lost sound on the storyboard, only, and only on that one project. I have restarted the Bogart several times and still have no sound on the storyboard. I do have sound in the scene bin. When I add scenes to the storyboard, again no sound. Any ideas of what is happening? There is sound with other projects on the storyboard.
ANSWER: If/since you indicate that other projects on that same hard drive are not giving you the same issue my suspicion is that your suspicious project might have a main audio track only on one channel - and that your audio monitor set-up may only be monitoring audio from the other (silent) channel.
It is an odd thing - but I have learned over the years that a scene in the Scene Bin can play audio out of the audio connectors differently than when it's on the Storyboard!
Here's a couple of things to try
1. If you can easily reach your cables - and if you have only one audio cable coming out of your Casablanca editor going into your audio monitor - switch the cables. Then playback the Storyboard to see if you have audio... if so, it's only your monitor but I would do the following in case any of your audience has a similar set-up.
2. In the Audio Mix Menu - we need to find out which channel has the audio and which is missing it.
Play back the storyboard and view the peak meter that's displaying the volume level of your audio tracks. If you are missing audio on one track it will be easily seen - it will be the track with no meter movement.
Once you have determined the 'offending' audio track -
- select the camera audio sample (by left clicking on it) - you should see the name of that audio sample in the bottom right corner of your menu.
- Left click on 'Effects' (bottom of Audio Mix menu) Scroll and select 'Copy Channel' (it's an effect that comes with the OS).
- Left click to add a check-mark in front of the effect
- To the right is the operator - select the correct option depending on which audio track is missing - If you're missing audio on the left track - select 'Mode Right-->Left' - If you are missing audio on the right track - select 'Mode Left-->Right'
- Left click OK Create (render) that effect and play it back. This will ensure audio is copied to both channels, both for you and your audience (this works whether you are creating a DVD or exporting back out to an audio stream (for videotape, etc).
