You can read on my CES 2011 Blog pages the news from this, the largest Consumer Electronics Show on the planet - you'll see I have summarized the new products so far in the vane of Increasing & Enhancing 'Our Connected Lifestyle'.
For video producers - this is an important notion, as this whole Consumer Electronics industry rapidly moves towards enabling the consumer to move assets (music, photos and videos) wirelessly between the devices in their office, their homes and their mobile devices - it's important we video producers also keep this in mind... the hard copy of your work, the DVD for example will become less important in the mainstream. Getting that video file/s onto their devices will be the key. I will address this topic more in the coming months in one of my Casablanca Expert Public Webinars.
As far as new products specifically for our interests - several manufacturers are releasing new cameras at the show - Casio introduced a line of new digital cameras on Wednesday, several of which have the capacity to do full, High-Definition video. Sony last night announced their consumer line-up of several camcorders - most notable is the HDR-DD10, which has dual lenses and dual processors that shoots 3D video - and the user can view 3D on the LCD view screen without having 3D glasses on! (and yes, it shoots 2D HD as well as 3D); Sony also introduced their newest 'Bloggie' camcorder, also shooting 3D and two new consumer camcorders with embedded projectors to allow folks to show their videos to the family in a darkened living room (really, it works - I saw it with my own eyes). Sony's Press Conference last night wowed me with a large array of consumer electronic products - you can view the event yourself in this streaming video archive: Sony CES 2011 Press Conference.
Today I will be visiting both the Canon and JVC exhibits to see what they have to offer that's new as well. I will be reporting back with any pertinent news from the floor of CES 2011.
